Hangho Land Boma: A Poetic Space of Modern Urban Luxury

Designer Xiqiang Guo Transforms Basement into a Serene Private Club

Inspired by ancient Chinese poetry, Xiqiang Guo has transformed a basement into a serene, luxurious private club. The Hangho Land Boma, a project that merges art, architecture, and innovation, is a testament to Guo's design prowess and creativity.

Xiqiang Guo, a renowned designer, drew inspiration from "Visit to the Land of Peach Blossoms," a poem by ancient Chinese poet Wang Wei. The Hangho Land Boma project incorporates picturesque views from the poem into the design, presenting an urban modern poetic space. The jade screens with landscape paintings, as well as staggered fish-like adornments on walnut wood grilles, are particularly eye-catching. The project is a basement renovation that ingeniously utilizes natural elements to overcome the original space's limitations, such as numerous pillars and limited patio lighting.

The Hangho Land Boma's unique features include an open Western-style kitchen and entertainment area, perfect for parties and recreational activities. The designers integrated the original space's beams and pillars into the open kitchen, enhancing both the aesthetic and functionality of the area. The sunken courtyard, another unique feature, provides a serene space. When the 9-meter-wide electric door at the courtyard opens, transparent glass and wooden grilles introduce natural light into the sunken courtyard, presenting a bright and open space.

The project's realization involved the use of sustainable materials and technologies. The Geberit drainage system and water-saving cisterns were selected as the main materials, with 304 stainless steel pipes used for water supply. Additionally, all LED lights were used to contribute to energy conservation and emission reduction.

The Hangho Land Boma is a private club that features a reception area, courtyard, and billiards area, offering guests a spacious and cozy environment. The karaoke area, with its gleaming agate bar counter, is a visual highlight. The ceiling is demarcated based on the functional areas below it, strengthening the space's functionality. This area can serve both reception and recreation purposes.

The project, which took place from October 2017 to August 2019, faced several challenges due to the original space's limitations. However, with innovative design solutions, these challenges were overcome, resulting in a bright and open space that optimizes functionality and aesthetics. The Hangho Land Boma project was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020, a testament to its outstanding design and innovation.
